Smallholdings and farms will not provide safe havens for criminal syndicates, Deputy National Commissioner for Policing Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili said on Wednesday after an intelligence-driven operation uncovered a clandestine mandrax manufacturing laboratory in Erasmia, west of Tshwane.
The laboratory was allegedly capable of producing about 800,000 mandrax tablets a day.
Addressing the media at the scene on Wednesday evening, Mosikili said police were deliberately targeting properties being used to conceal illicit operations as the South African Police Service (SAPS) intensifies its fight against organised drug networks.
“We have noted with concern that some smallholdings and farms are being used as hideouts for illicit activities, including the manufacturing of drugs. But let me be very clear today: these properties are not beyond the reach of the law. One by one, we are identifying them, raiding them, dismantling their operations and disrupting the criminal networks behind them,” Mosikili
