A sixth woman’s body has been found in Ekurhuleni, a day after the discovery of a fifth body heightened concern over the deaths of several women in and around Kempton Park and fuelled fears among residents that a serial killer could be operating in the area.
The latest body was discovered on Tuesday morning on the side of a road in KwaThema, Springs, about 45km from Kempton Park, where four women’s bodies have been found since July.

Police have not yet disclosed the circumstances surrounding the KwaThema woman’s death or whether investigators believe it could be linked to the five cases under investigation in and around Kempton Park.
The discovery came a day after a fifth woman’s body was found in Olifantsfontein, near the old Comair aviation training centre along the R21. A passer-by walking to work discovered the body on Monday morning.
The deaths have prompted SAPS to establish a multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases and determine whether any of them are linked.
The discoveries have also sparked growing fears among women and residents in the Kempton Park area that a serial killer may be responsible.

Police have, however, cautioned against reaching that conclusion before investigators establish whether the deaths are connected, saying all possibilities are being considered.
Police have confirmed that forensic investigations found that most of the victims in the Kempton Park cases had been sexually assaulted.
This is a developing story.
