DEPUTY Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has issued a summons for former president Jacob Zuma to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry to give evidence next month on November 16 to 20.
Zondo said he would be failing as State Capture Inquiry Chairperson if he didn’t compel Zuma to testify at the commission.
“Failure to comply with the instructions of the Chairperson is the criminal Act,” said Zondo.
Zondo said the summons might include an option for Zuma to testify via video link if necessary, instead of him coming to the commission in person.
Zuma, through his lawyers, earlier wrote to the Commission that he would not be appearing unless Zondo recuses himself, accusing the chairperson of bias.
“The Zondo commission on state capture is nothing but a bastardisation of legal processes to achieve political ends for those who pull the strings from behind,” the Jacob Zuma Foundation said.
