PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation at 8pm tonight on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The president’s address will follow meetings of National Coronavirus Command Council, President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet which are still taking place.
“As South Africa rolls out its COVID–19 vaccination programme, government and social partners are continuously monitoring infection, treatment and patient recovery rates as well as compliance with health regulations and other prevention measures,” said the Presidency in a statement.
The Department of Health said on Saturday that South Africa had reported 21 610 new cases.
The department said 265 deaths have been reported, bringing the total to 64 138 deaths.
The cumulative number of recoveries stood at 1 904 107 with a recovery rate of 87.4%.
