DRAKE’S “heart is broken” following the Astroworld tragedy on Friday, which claimed the lives of eight people.
The Canadian rapper made a surprise appearance during Travis Scott’s headlining set at the festival, joining him to perform two tracks including their 2018 collaboration Sicko Mode.
Drake has found himself at the center of backlash for continuing with his performance during the set, which took place as emergency services were reportedly responding to multiple cases of cardiac arrests as a result of the crowd surging to the front.
Now the God’s Plan star has broken his silence on the tragedy, admitting he was struggling to find the right words to say.
“I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy,” he wrote on Instagram. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can, May God be with you all.”
His statement comes after Scott made a similar one, in which he said he was “absolutely devastated” by the tragedy. He has since offered to cover the funeral costs for the victims.
Both Drake and Scott have been named in numerous lawsuits from the festival.
