FORMER finance minister Tito Mboweni announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament on Monday.

His resignation as an ANC MP comes some six months after he resigned as finance minister.

ANC parliamentary caucus spokesperson Nomfanelo Kota says there is nothing abnormal about Mboweni’s resignation.

“You would know that he is one of those solid well rounded cadres that the movement has invested in as far back as the early 80’s. So he has served this nation in a number of roles, critical roles, governor, minister of labour, minister of finance and even here in parliament he has been doing a sterling job.

“We do wish him well in his future endeavors, and we hope that wherever he goes he will continue to bring his shining star, and we will definitely miss his laughter and video calls from Magoebaskloof.”

He says Mboweni has a new job lined up.

“We have learnt that he will be taking up a position in one of the prestigious roles so there is nothing toxic in this, but we do wish him well in his new role and we know that he is going out there as a solid force.”
