ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) president and former Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has been sentenced to four years in prison or a R200,000 fine for perjury.
Dlamini is expected to pay R20,000 Friday and the rest by the end of April.
If she chooses 4 years imprisonment 2 years will be suspended.
Dlamini was convicted of perjury after having been found to have lied to a Constitutional Court-mandated inquiry into the SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants crisis.
One of the issues investigated by the inquiry, headed by retired Gauteng judge president Bernard Ngoepe, was whether Dlamini had appointed work streams of the SASSA to ensure the agency could take over the payment of social grants from Cash Paymaster Services.
