EFF leader Julius Malema has accused former president Thabo Mbeki of being the driving force behind the Phala Phala farm saga.

Opposition parties are calling for a motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa, for allegedly failing to report a break-in at his Limpopo game farm in February 2020.

Malema said former spy boss Arthur Fraser was working with Mbeki to to dethrone Ramaphosa.

“RET forces of the ANC have never in jubilation celebrated Fraser, including on this allegation, they’ve never owned up to this allegations. It is alleged that Fraser is working with Thabo Mbeki,” said Malema.

“They are asking themselves whose agenda Fraser is driving. The answer is Fraser is with [former] president Mbeki in the unseating of president Ramaphosa, because Mbeki says he is still disgruntled for not finishing his term [as president].”

Last month, Mbeki slammed Ramaphosa at the memorial service of Jessie Duarte, an African National Congress (ANC) stalwart who died on July 17.
“There is no national plan to address the challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality, it doesn’t exist,” Mbeki said at the service.
“To serve the people requires that we address these issues.”
Mbeki also accused Ramaphosa of failing to deliver on his promises to address socioeconomic conditions and curb government corruption in South Africa, predicting that these would cause spontaneous civil unrest triggered by a single event and might “spark our own version of the Arab Spring”, he said.
