FINANCE Minister Enoch Godongwana will table South Africa’s 2022 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) in Parliament in Cape Town on 26 October 2022 at 2pm.
This was confirmed by National Treasury in a brief statement on Monday.
“The MTBPS sets government policy goals and priorities, forecasts macroeconomic trajectory and projects the fiscal framework over the next three years by outlining spending and revenue estimates, among others,” the Treasury said in a statement.
This will be Godongwana’s third major budget-related speech since taking office as finance minister last year. He delivered the 2021 MTBPS speech in November and the main Budget 2022 speech in February.
Godongwana replaced former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, following the latter’s resignation last year.
He is a key member of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s team both in government and the ANC.
Godongwana is currently awaiting word from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on whether it will charge him after a masseuse at an upmarket spa laid a complaint of sexual harassment with police.
He has denied the accusation.
Should he be charged he will be forced to step aside from his position on the ANC national executive committee.
But this will be up to Ramaphosa to decide whether he continues to serve in the Cabinet or not.
