THE independent panel tasked with assessing whether President Cyril Ramaphosa has a case to answer over the Phala Phala farm allegations will start its work on Wednesday.
The panel has until November 18 to complete its work and report to the speaker of the National Assembly.
In terms of the National Assembly Rules the panel has 30 days to complete its work.
Parliament announced on Monday ‘the 30-day timeline within which the panel must report in terms of [the rules] starts from October 19.’
National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appointed the Section 89 inquiry panel, following a motion from ATM leader Vuyolwethu Zungula for Ramaphosa’s removal.
Zungula’s motion is based on an allegation that Ramaphosa seriously violated the Constitution or the law in dealing with the theft.
Former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo is expected to chair the independent panel.
