Controversial Andile Lungisa, Malusi Gigaba and Bathabile Dlamini among those elected to ANC’s new NEC

FORMER ANC Youth League Deputy President Andile Lungisa and former ANC Women’s League President Bathabile are among those elected to the governing party’s new National Executive Committee following the reversal of their disqualification.

ANC electoral committee chair Kgalema Motlanthe made the announcement of the 80 additional members to the NEC on Wednesday.

Lungisa secured 1 758 votes.

This comes after Lungisa lodged an appeal with the ANC’s national elective conference over his two-year suspension by the party’s national disciplinary committee.

The appeal follows Lungisa’s failed high court bid, which was dismissed on Thursday, to have the suspension set aside.

A final decision of Lungisa’s suspension will be made when the ANC resumes its national conference in January 2023.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana received 1 554 votes while current ANC chief ehip Pemmy Majodina garnered 1 470.
