POLICE are investing an alleged racist attack at a holiday resort in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
This comes after a group of white adult males allegedly tried to prevent two black teenagers from using a swimming pool at the Maselspoort Resort and Conference Centre, Bloemfontein, on Christmas Day.
A video of the attack, which has since gone viral, showed details of a scuffle and white adult men physically assaulting the black teenagers.
The white men could be seen grabbing them by the neck, punching and pulling their hair.
The video also showed one of the white men grabbing one of the boys by the neck in the pool and submerging his head in the water.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Makhele Motantsi said the Glen police members responded to an incident at a holiday resort in Bloemfontein after 3pm on Sunday.
“On arrival members found the groups already dispersed and were approached by a parent of one of the victims who alleged that his two teenage boys aged `8 and 13 were assaulted by a group of white males over the use of a swimming pool,” Motantsi said.
A case of common assault is under investigation and the docket will be submitted for a decision regarding prosecution.
“The suspects who are all white males, as seen on the video circulating on social media, were warned to appear in court on a date to be set by the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court.”
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemned the alleged racial attack at the resort.
“We are further disappointed in the failure of the Management of Maselspoort to correctly deal with this act of racism on their facilities … White people need to unlearn the logic that they deserve their own space, this is the highest form of nonsense that has been tolerated for the longest of times,” the party said.
“South Africa remains a country that is reconciled by theory while the material and practical conditions of the everyday life of a black person continues to be under daily subjection to racist acts without question”.
