NEWLY elected acting Speaker of the City of Ekurhuleni Nthabiseng Tshivhenga says the council will consider within the next seven days a motion of no confidence against DA councillor and executive mayor Tania Campbell.

Tshivhenga said the council meeting on Thursday considered and agreed on a motion without notice, this refers to a motion of no confidence against Campbell.

”The motion was agreed and carried by council. The council will reconvene an extraordinary meeting within the next seven days to consider a motion of no confidence against the mayor,” Tshivhenga said.

While DA councillors did everything possible to try to delay the process by adjourning the council sitting, which continued until very late on Thursday night.

Councillors from both the ANC and EFF accused former speaker Raymond Dhlamini of being conflicted and doing everything to delay the meeting.

The EFF took over the position of Speaker in the City of Ekurhuleni following a day full of drama.

While Tshivhenga has been appointed interim Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Council, Dhlamini walked out during a council sitting following sustained calls for him to recuse himself.

Jongizizwe Dlabathi from the ANC was elected the acting Chief Whip following the
resignation of the DA’s Khetha Shandu, who resigned just a day before a motion of
no confidence could be tabled against him.

In the next seven days, Campbell will have her future decided but Action SA has reached out and urged her to resign as Ekurhuleni Mayor.
