The African National Congress Youth Leagu’s 26th National Congress elected, unopposed,

Collen Malatji as its president and Phumzile Mgcina as deputy president.

Khulekani Skosana declined nominations for the secretary-general position (SG), making Mntuwoxolo Ngudle the new SG unopposed.

Tsakani Shiviti was elected the new ANCYL 1st deputy SG as well as Olga Seate who was elected as 2nd deputy SG also unopposed.

Thuthukile Zuma’s name was nominated from the floor for treasurer general (TG)l and she accepted but did not meet the threshold of the hands required. As a result, Zwelo Masilela from Mpumalanga was elected as the new ANCYL TG, unopposed.

The new ANC Youth League Top 6 is as follows:

President: Collen Malatjie

Deputy President: Phumzile Mgcina

SG: Mntuwoxolo Ngudle

1st DSG: Tsakani Shiviti

2nd DSG: Olga Seate.

Treasurer General: Zwelo Masilela

Credentials were adopted by congress earlier, although a group of former Task Team members wrote to the ANC and raised credibility and tempering of congress audit processes.

ANC National Executive Committee member Mdu Manana declared that the  Youth League has now regained its autonomy.

Earlier on Saturday ANC SG Fikile Mbalula rejected claims that there was interference in the affairs of the ANC Youth League.

“There is no meddling of any sort in the business of the youth league. This structure will have its full autonomy after this conference,” he said, urging the Congress to agree on leadership.

“Comrades you need to find each other on the question of leadership, it can’t be do or die. We will guard this process. We want the Youth League to reclaim its autonomy, we don’t like disbanding you and it provides us with political problems. Today is the beginning of the journey of where we come from. SA youth want leadership of the Youth League.”
