Charges were withdrawn against Nastassja Jansen, Thabang Mier and Moeketsi Ramolula when Thabo Bester and 10 others appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges relating to his brazen escape from the Mangaung Correctional Facility in May last year.
The start of court proceedings in the case was delayed after Bester’s lover and co-accused Nandipha Magudumana collapsed in her cell.
It’s reported that Magudumana had to receive medical attention after she fainted in the holding cells of the Park Road Police Station in the Free State.
Magudumana’s lawyer Machini Motloung told the media that he had spoken to the area commissioner and the medical officer who had attended to his client, and it was confirmed that Magudumana was unwell.
Last month, Magudumana, who is accused of helping Bester, a convicted killer and rapist, escape from the Maguang Prison lost her bail application bid after the court found she was a flight risk.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, Bester told the court that Advocates Dali Mpofu and Zandile Mshololo will be joining his legal team.
Earlier the family of Katlego Bereng whose body was found in Bester‘s cell at Mangaung Correctional Centre said they need answers about how their son was killed.
The matter was previously postponed for further investigations. The court indicated that the last postponement was final.
Bereng’s father, Batho Mpholo, said they wanted closure on what happened to their son.
“We hope that today they will announce a date in court. We need to know how our son was killed,” he said.
