Former deputy president of the ANC Veterans League Mavuso Msimang has demanded that the party’s SG Fikile Mbalula retract his allegations immediately, and threatens legal action.
Msimang posted a video on social platform X on Monday, in which he demanded a summary retraction as well as reprimanded Mbalula on his “disingenuous accusations and purposeful manipulation of the narrative surrounding his recent resignation”.
Speaking at the Wedela Community Hall in the West Rand on Sunday, Mbalula described the recent launch of businessman Roger Jardine’s new movement – Change Starts Now – as nothing but a funded project that has been started to defeat the ANC in the upcoming elections.
Mbalula is alleged to have insinuated that Msimang was bribed to join Jardine’s movement.
Msimang said another “deliberate lie” by Mbalula, was that he resigned from the party through the media, and that he exclusively emailed his resignation to Mbalula and his personal assistant before his letter leaked, two hours later.
Mbalula has previously rebuked the ANCVL for undermining and overly criticising the leadership of the party, saying: “They are attacking and de-campaigning our movement as we face difficulties’ ‘.
It remains unconfirmed whether Msimang officially intends to join Jardine’s Change Starts Now movement.
