EFF welcomes arrest of six suspects in ‘AKA’ and ‘Tibz’ murder case

THE EFF have welcomed the arrest of the six men suspected of being involved in the tragic murder of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his longtime friend and former manager, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, in Durban last year.

The spokesperson for the EFF Sinawo Thambo commended the South African Police Service (SAPS), particularly Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and his team, for their dedication and thorough investigation that had led to the apprehensions.

On February 10th, 2023, Forbes and Motsoane were fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban.

After months of investigations, Mkhwanazi and his team successfully apprehended six suspects linked to the crime. The alleged masterminds were captured hiding in eSwatini over the weekend, adding to previous arrests made last year.

According to the EFF statement, each suspect played a distinct role in the murder, highlighting the disturbing prevalence of organised crime and easy access to illegal firearms in South Africa. The party underscored the urgent need to dismantle criminal networks, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, where murder rates are alarmingly high.

The EFF Mkhwanazi for his professional approach to the case, avoiding sensationalism and focusing on concrete results. The party expressed solidarity with the Forbes family and emphasised that justice must be served to all involved.

The EFF urged the SAPS to maintain its efforts in dismantling organised crime networks and combating the illegal firearms trade, emphasising the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans.

The ANC’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula went on social media X and congratulated General Mkhwanazi on the breakthrough on the AKA case.

“I personally want to extend a hand of appreciation to the South African police service for the arrest of AKA killers, special thanks to the commissioner and his team in KZN General Mkhwanazi and the Minister of police”.
