The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially opened for special votes ahead of the General Elections to be held on 29 May.

The Commission announced on Monday that it has opened applications for the special vote to allow registered voters, who cannot vote at their voting station on the assigned day, to apply to vote on a predetermined day before Election Day.

The commission confirmed that the closing date to apply for special votes is 3 May.

To qualify for a special vote, a registered voter must be unable to visit their local voting station on voting day due to medical conditions such as pregnancy, infirmity or other disabilities..

In addition, a voter may also be eligible for a special vote for other reasons, such as work-related challenges.

Special votes can either be cast at home, with IEC officials visiting the residence, or at a voting station.

The commission released the full list of voting stations across the country, accessible on its website.

Special votes and home visits for this year’s general elections will take place on 27 and 28 May.
