Doctor Khumalo and Hotstix Mabuse join the campaign trail

Celebrities like soccer legend Doctor Khumalo and jazz stalwart Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse have been roped in by the African National Congress (ANC) to assist in stepping up their efforts to garner more votes.

Former Gauteng premier and businessman Tokyo Sexwale canvassed in Soweto on Wednesday and was joined by former Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux.

In his address to party volunteers, Sexwale said that the ANC was the most appropriately qualified party with vast experience in running the country.

“The ANC has a track record as an organisation. It admits to its own mistakes. We must go to the people and admit our mistakes, but also remind them who we are,” Sexwale said.

While Khumalo is a beloved local football icon, many have voiced their concerns and viewed his appearance as a political ploy and demeaning to his reputation.
