The family of former minister Pravin Gordhan has thanked South Africans from different walks of life for their support and condolences following his death on Friday morning.
“The tributes honouring Pravin, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC and its leagues, veterans, alliance partners, political parties, civil society, business, religious organisations and his comrades, have been comforting to us,” his family said in statement on Sunday.
“We have received messages and tributes from people and organisations from around the world that worked with Pravin. The outpouring of grief, the patriotism and the social cohesion across racial lines in the aftermath of his passing have comforted us during this difficult time of sorrow.”
It said that they knew Gordhan would have been heartened to see the flood of support for him and acknowledgement of his life’s work.
The family have requested that instead of floral tributes, donations be made to the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation
