South Africans woke up to stage 6 load-shedding on Sunday morning following Eskom introducing stage 3 late on Saturday afternoon.
This is the second time that the country has been hit by load-shedding in less than a month. Before that the utility was well on its way of reaching an entire year without load-shedding.
Eskom announced early on Sunday morning that it regretted to announce that stage 6 was implemented at 1.30am due to multiple unit trips at Camden Power Station in Ermelo in Mpumalanga and it would continue until further notice.
“This measure followed the implementation of stage 3, necessitated by multiple unit trips at Majuba Power Station and a unit trip at Medupi that resulted in a loss of 3864 MW in generation capacity, while planned maintenance accounted for 7506 MW,” Eskom said.
