DA says no deal on the Budget

Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen has denied that there has been any agreement on the Budget, contradicting an earlier statement by the Cabinet that it was all systems go.

Steenhuisen took to social media on Tuesday to debunk a Cabinet statement that assured South Africans that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was ready to table the Budget after a special Cabinet meeting gave him a variety of options to deal with the Budget deficit.

But Steenhuisen said this was not the case and talks were continuing.

“Good afternoon, South Africa. Constructive discussions on the Budget are ongoing. There is no agreement yet, but we are working towards a resolution by 12 March,” he posted on X.

However, the Cabinet said in a statement that it had convened a special meeting on Monday where it concluded the process of considering inputs to Godongwana to fund the 2025/2026 financial year
