National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola has assured the nation that the country’s executive is in safe hands.
The assurance follows the reported shooting of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s motorcade recently.
His office confirmed the shooting, saying that an extensive investigation was underway, with the ballistics report already concluded. A high-level team was conducting the probe.
It said on Tuesday that members of the Presidential Protection Service who were assigned to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Mashatile were trained and possessed the necessary expertise and capabilities to avert any risk and threat.
“The resources assigned to safeguard the executive are also adequate and designed to prevent any direct and imminent threat on their lives,” a statement read.
