The EFF last week threatened to turn the Sona into a question-and-answer session if Ramaphosa did not disclose his Bosasa dealings.
The 2019 state-of-the-nation address (Sona) by President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the only agenda item during the joint sitting of Parliament on February 7, with strict rules of engagement and parliamentary conventions applying, the national legislature’s presiding officers said on Wednesday.
Briefing the media, National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces chairwoman Thandi Modise said preparations for a successful Sona were well under way. Modise added they expected no disruptions, despite the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) threatening to the turn the Sona into a roasting of Ramaphosa over his dealings with a company implicated in state capture.
“There is no extraordinary measures put in place. The usual preparations for Sona are in place. We are not expecting any disruptions,” said Modise.
