The City of Ekurhuleni is set to make a critical decision regarding the future of EMPD Deputy Chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, following renewed allegations of misconduct at the Madlanga Commission.

This follows an urgent motion tabled by council members, with voting delayed pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

While the council typically does not deliberate on the employment status of senior officials, Mkhwanazi is expected to hear his fate by a decision expected before the end of the day on Thursday.

A report from the city of Ekurhuleni is expected to be tabled before council detailing claims that Mkhwanazi played a role in the unauthorised transfer of EMPD blue lights to the private vehicles of politically-connected businessman and attempted murder accused, Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
