AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo has been released after he was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly attacking his son King Azenathi with an axe.

The Eastern Cape police confirmed his arrest saying the king allegedly went on a rampage at the Great Bumbane Palace in Umtata on Friday.

He appeared briefly in the Umtata Magistrate’s Court and was later released on warning.

Police charged him with common assault and malicious damage to property.

Dalindyebo is currently out on parole after qualifying for a remission of sentence announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in December last year.

He was imprisoned for kidnapping, assault with intent to do bodily harm, and defeating the ends of justice.

He served four years of his 12-year jail sentence. He has been taken to the Mthatha police station.
