ANC North West regional secretary, ward councillor, driver in court for tender kickback

An ANC North West regional secretary, a ward coucillor and a driver appeared in the Pretoria Magistrte Court for allegedly demanding a kickback for a tender from a local businessman.

Regional secretary Raymond Mogaile, 42, Madibeng municipality ward councillor Peter Legong, 39, and Menzi Mngadi, 42, from Brits in the Madibeng Municipality were remanded in custody fo further investigation.

Hawks spokesperson Colonel Mogale said the trio will next appear again on December 15 2025.

They were arrested by the Hawks on Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Investigation after a businessman alerted the police about the extortion move by the two politicians and the driver promising him the advertised tender.

It is alleged the trio we demanded a R300,000-00 from a local businessman, in exchance for the awarding of a tender

The tender had been advertised by the Madibeng Municipality during November 2025. 

“It is alleged that the complainant was contacted by one of the suspects inquiring if the businessman was interested in being assisted to secure a tender.  

“Subsequently, the trio is reported to have arranged a meeting with the businessman wherein they discussed the amount to exchange hands,” said Mogale.

She said th businessman then reported the matter to the Serious Corruption Investigation who in turn obtained the necessary documents to set up an operation which led to their arrest.
