The two brothers accused in the 2023 assassinations of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane have been transferred from Durban’s Westville prison to the eBongweni Super Maximum Correctional Centre in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal.

Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande, were extradited from Eswatini in November after withdrawing their extradition appeal. They appeared in court via video link on Friday.

Defence counsel Simphiwe Mlotshwa told the Durban Magistrate’s Court that the move to the super-max facility, which he said the defence only discovered on 2 January, had hampered consultations with his clients.

State prosecutor Elvis Gcweka confirmed the pair had been moved to the facility.

Police have linked the brothers to three cases in KwaZulu-Natal, including the AKA and Motsoane murders, the 2022 murder of a taxi boss in Amanzimtoti, and a separate case involving the murder of a taxi boss’s driver and the attempted murder of his wife, according to national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.

eBongweni is used for offenders who are considered high risk.

The matter was adjourned to 4 March.
