ACTIONSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont says the party has terminated membership of Nkele Molapo, who is also a partner to the party’s former member, Abel Tau.
“ActionSA’s Senate met last night and voted to terminate the membership of Nkele Molapo who was believed to be, in part, responsible for coordinating with some of our councillors who do not support the multi-party Coalition’s decision to support the vote for a new coalition mayor in the City of Tshwane,” Beaumont said.
He dismissed reports alleging that the party terminated her membership based solely on her personal relationship with Tau, who was expelled in November last year for allegedly making “sexual advances on the wife of a fellow member during a drinking session”.
“Molapo’s relationship with Abel Tau has been a matter of public record for some time,” Beaumont said.
The party believes that Molapo was involved in gathering information about complaints made against ActionSA members shortly before the information featured prominently in speeches made by Tau.
He said Molapo also faced a prima facie case which made it clear that she had intimidated and/or harassed members of the party’s Tshwane Caucus in an attempt to destabilise ActionSA.
Earlier on Monday, ActionSA Gauteng chairperson Bongani Baloyi announced his resignation from the party.
Baloyi held a meeting with businessman and ActionSA’s founder Herman Mashaba last week about his impending removal as Gauteng provincial leader “and make him a National Spokesperson.”
“ActionSA can confirm that a meeting did take place with Baloyi on Tuesday 7 March which discussed a proposal of a change of role for Baloyi arising from irreconcilable differences on the running of the Gauteng provincial structures,” Beaumont added.
Baloyi was immediately replaced by ActionSA’s Joburg councillor Funzi Ngobeni.
“I am pleased to announce that Funzi Ngobeni will assume the role of ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson with immediate effect. Funzi’s nomination was widely supported by the Senate & the Gauteng PEC. I have full confidence in his ability to lead the province into 2024,” Mashaba announced on his Twitter account on Monday.
