THE African National Congress (ANC) in the North West announced on Friday that its ninth Provincial Conference will resume on August 27 at the Rustenburg Civic Centre.
The conference will recommence after a two-week adjournment, after supporters of former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo filed legal papers to have the conference declared invalid.
The resumption of the conference will see additional members being elected to the provincial executive committee led by the newly elected provincial chairperson Nono Maloyi.
Addressing the media during an impromptu briefing, ANC North West deputy secretary Louis Diremelo said all delegates had been informed timeously of the new date and were expected to exchange their old tags for new tags with security features.
“We are not starting from scratch. Not even disputes will be allowed this time because we are done with the disputes. No new delegates will be entertained. We remain the same delegates. We are just going to continue and conclude,” he said.
He stressed that the newly elected top 5 still stood.
During the conference, ANC Head of Organising, Nomvula Mokonyane told the media the party had opened a criminal case following the discovery of cloned accreditation tags.
The falsified tags were revealed to have been part of a plan to have individuals participate in the conference illegally.
Diremelo said delegates would be given new accreditation tags with additional security features.
“We have already adopted credentials, so the same delegates who are continuing with in continuation of the conference are the same delegates. The only thing that changes is that delegates are expected to bring in their old tags and get new tags with new security features,” Diremelo said.
