PHUTI MOSOMANE
HOME Affairs Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi announced on Monday that the Director-General of Home Affairs will initiate proceedings to revoke the passport of Dr. Nandipha Magudumana.
Magudumana was apprehended in Tanzania with her passport, as well as two passports belonging to Dr. Mmereka Ntshani, popularly known as ‘Dr. Pashy.’
According to Motsoaledi, “She no longer deserves it,” referring to the rule that states if a passport holder is deported from another country at the expense of the state, their passport should be revoked.
During his media briefing, Motsoaledi said his department is challenging Magudumana’s urgent application in the High Court in Bloemfontein on Thursday.
“For her team to go to court and say she was abducted, and they don’t cite us as respondents in court papers is suspect. For this case, we are demanding to be cited,” he said.
Motsoaledi maintained that Dr. Nandipha was lawfully deported from Tanzania and stated that the Department of Home Affairs would contest any legal action taken by her.
Additionally, he confirmed that Thabo Bester, a convicted rapist, was issued an identity card on May 17, 2023.
“His name has been entered into the national population register, thus ending many years of his status as a non-identifiable person.”
Motsoaledi confirmed police have conducted DNA tests with Bester’s mother confirming his identity.
He said this was only used as an added advantage but not a requirement.
