The IFP National Youth Brigade Secretary General, Mlungisi Mabaso, has questioned the decision by Party President Velankosini Hlabisa to sign the Multi-Party Charter agreement as it contradicts the party’s NEC resolutions.
Mabaso, speaking on behalf of the league, on Saturday, called for the immediate withdrawal of the IFP party from the Charter pact.
The league has called attention to certain conditions agreed upon by the NEC on 22 May, 3 and 10 July this year in which the party pledged to continue the reconciliation project which might necessitate working with the ANC, as well as committing to a continuing relationship with the EFF.
The league highlighted further issues that was agreed upon in which the party pledged to not close a door on any party for the purposes of possible coalitions, that the party will not sign or enter into any agreement or declaration on or before the elections, and that the party has not declared any political party as its political enemy.
“We are cognisant of the imperative to engage on the approach to stabilise Coalition governance in the country and to develop strategies to unseat the governing party, but we are of the view that our approach and strategies must be in line with the party position to maintain our identity and adhere to party resolutions,” Mabaso said.
In terms of section 7.1.2 of the Multi-Party Charter agreement, the IFP declared its commitment to not entertain any working arrangement or co-governing agreements with the ANC, EFF or any rival formations, and further would not vote for any office bearers of the ANC and EFF.
The agreement went on to declare in the next subsection of the coalition’s specific intention to unseat the ANC, keep out the EFF, and usher in a multiparty government following the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
“The government that has failed our people, dashed our hopes and destroyed our country must be removed from power, and replaced by an alternative government that will revive the hopes, dreams and aspirations of our people,” IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa said.
This follows on the party’s enthusiastic participation in the two day National Convention on Coalitions, held at Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, earlier this week.
