ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula and EFF MP’s Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi are feuding on Twitter, with the two sparring over the success – or failure, of the national shutdown march on Monday.
The Twitter beef between the two political leaders began on Sunday night when Mbalula, a senior member of the governing party, tweeted that South Africa was not a “banana republic”, and called on the EFF to take responsibility for their acts of violence and propaganda.
Mbalula accused the leadership of the EFF of being “reckless and irresponsible”.
“Innocent people will be at the receiving end not, EFF leadership … I am here at Braamfontein @MbuyiseniNdlozi Where are you?” Mbalula tweeted.
In response to Mbalula’s rant, Ndlozi accused the ANC Secretary-General of running his mouth, and also accused him of being a drunkard.
“You have a banana imagination. And stop lying you are not in Braamfontein. Oh, it’s confirmed that you are in Kitchener’s beer hall…. Things you are known for,” Ndlozi tweeted.
“If we are so insignificant, why such a large security detail, backed by a military on standby? What did you expect? Looting? Violence? We told you it’s a Stayaway! But it’s you shame, no cognitive speed to grasp obvious things. You are all scared and you should be.”
“This side @MbalulaFikile. I know you might have not sobered yet from the beer you drank all night. I also know you don’t have the cognitive speed it requires to craps obvious things but take your time- you have the whole day!”
From there, things developed even further.
Mbalula added that the EFF’s national shutdown has failed.
“EFF plans of shutdown in our country through chaos has failed. They are left isolated in many parts of the country. Their attempt to incite insurrection by using the electricity crisis has failed,” he tweeted.
“Ndlozi, I have never in my life attacked you personally, or denigrated you. We are opponents. That’s all. I differ with you and your organization,” said Mbalula.
“South Africans have rejected the EFF shutdown … not that they don’t have issues against government. We will fix loadshedding and many other challenges working with all our citizenship.”
The EFF, which is leading the national shutdown, kicked off their protest before midnight on Sunday, and are currently marching to the Union Buildings, Pretoria, to demand for the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Mbalula tweeted: “Claim no easy victories; tell no lies; mask no difficulties. The EFF’s attempt to coerce our people to stay away have failed. They have now resorted to intimidation tactics using a long-weekend holiday as a multiplier, that too has failed.”
