MK boycotts Ramaphosa’s Inauguration

THE Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party has said it is boycotting Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings in Tshwane.

In a statement on Tuesday, MK spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the party won’t attend a ceremony honouring a “sell out” Presidency, who was the result of rigged and illegal elections.

“We refuse to join the spitting of the graves of those who died for this freedom by attending the symbolic wedding ceremony of a house negro called Ramaphosa, with the slave master, Helen Zille,” Ndhlela said.

The party called on others to reject the celebration of what they referred to as the continued oppression under the guise of a DA-ANC coalition.

Additionally, Ndhlela called out the recent announcement of a coalition between the ANC and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) in the Northern Cape.

“The ANC surrendered a part of our country and continent to unrepentant racists to secure the position of Premier for Zamani Saul,” he said.

He concluded by vowing that the party would use all legal means at its disposal to expose, fight and destroy the incoming illegitimate regime of Ramaphosa, John Steenhuisen and Pieter Groenewald.

“The time is now for all progressive forces to unite against the reintroduction of apartheid and colonialism,” Ndhlela said.

The MK party also boycotted the first sitting of the House of the National Assembly last week Friday, and its members who have 58 seats refused to be sworn-in by the Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

Foreign heads of state, representatives of civic organisations and political parties represented in Parliament are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, which will be held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
