Treasurer-general Danisa Zulu and Secretary-general (SG) Arthur Zwane are no longer a part of the executive structures of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.

Zwane announced his resignation on Tuesday morning, in a letter to party leader and former president Jacob Zuma, with immediate effect citing strenuous obligations from his office which have proved huge and beyond his limits, and that he was currently pursuing competing business interests, as reasons for stepping down from the position.

“I’m humbled by the confidence you had in me, starting from being deputy secretary general and later SG,” he said.

The former SG said he would remain available to handover to the newly appointed incumbent of the office and would also be available to help with other organisational matters, albeit not on a full-time basis.

This was followed by the announcement, via a letter from Zuma to Zulu, informing her that she should hand over her responsibilities to the new head of the office of Treasury-General.

Zuma said that due to the need to use the party’s limited and available human capital efficiently, the decision has been made to relinquish Zulu from the functions of the office with immediate effect.

He said Zulu would soon be engaged regarding her new role within the party, and thanked her for the work she has done thus far.

“This serves to express my heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding and priceless revolutionary work you have done for the MKP,” the former president said.

Unlike Zwane, Zulu is expected to remain a full-time active member of the party, although details surrounding her new position have not been confirmed at the time of publication.

Meanwhile the party announced on Tuesday that controversial former Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital acting head Sifiso Maseko has been appointed as general-secretary and Menzi Magubane as treasury-general, effective immediately.

The party said the appointments mark a new era for MK, which is poised for growth and progress under the leadership of Maseko and Magubane.

“Maseko, a medical doctor and politician, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, while Magubane’s expertise in finance and administration will be invaluable in managing the party’s resources,” the party said.

Maseko was previously dismissed as acting head of Baragwanath hospital, following allegations of corruption and maladministration, and was suspended as head of infrastructure within the Gauteng department of health after allegations of corruption in the department’s construction of four new field intensive care hospitals.
