Newly-elected Gauteng Deputy Speaker Refiloe Ntsekhe is expected to resign from her position, following the withdrawal of the party from the government of provincial unity (GPU).
The provincial leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Solly Msimanga said on Thursday the party would make an announcement on her resignation in light of what he claimed was the exclusion of the blue army from an impactful position within the executive.
This comes on the heels of the withdrawal of the DA from the GPU after a breakdown in negotiations concerning positions within the executive council.
Msimanga said Ntsekhe’s position would prove toothless without the support from other party members in critical positions.
He said the DA had envisaged a meaningful role in the executive with a number of positions and also in the legislature where her position would have complemented that of the chair of chairs plus other oversight committee
