THE Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa will return to Parliament on 29 September to answer questions on the Phala Phala game farm scandal.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa has written back to her, saying his earliest opportunity to appear before Parliament to answer the ATM’s Phala-Phala question, is 29 September 2022,” said Mapisa-Nqakula.
“Accordingly, then the president will deal with supplementary questions of number 11 by honourable (African Transformation Movement leader Vuyolwethu) Zungula , which of course was the fifth question of the day.”
“That will be in addition to the questions which will be on the order paper for the day. Now, according to this a motion will be processed by the House to give effect to this arrangement at the earliest opportunity.”
Ramaphosa’s last appearance in the National Assembly descended into chaos after opposition parties accused him of failing to answer questions on the saga.
He later said he was not evasive, promising to answer questions about Phala Phala at an appropriate time.
Ramaphosa is under fire for possibly having violated the exchange control laws for not reporting the theft of US dollars at his Phala Phala farm two years ago.
When questioned by opposition parties in Parliament about the allegations, Ramaphosa said he had been advised that he should not make any public statements about the matter until investigations have been concluded.
