Convicted serial killer and former police officer Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu and her co-accused Nomsa Mudau have been found guilty of inciting the murder of Mudau’s former husband, Justice Mudau, in the Kempton Park Regional Court.
The court on Wednesday convicted the pair after finding that they attempted to hire hitmen to kill Justice Mudau in 2018, in what the State said was a plot linked to insurance payouts.
Evidence presented in court showed that the alleged hitmen instead warned Justice Mudau about the murder plot, leading to the case being exposed before the killing could be carried out.
During the trial, the State argued that Ndlovu contacted middleman Lakhiwe Mkhize to arrange the murder, before Mudau allegedly met him to further discuss the plan.
Witnesses testified that Mudau repeatedly requested that her husband be killed, with the State relying on evidence of meetings and communications linked to the plot.
Mudau denied conspiring to kill her husband and pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings, insisting she never intended to commit any crime. Ndlovu elected not to testify in her defence.
Ndlovu is already serving six concurrent life sentences plus 125 years’ imprisonment after being convicted in 2021 for orchestrating the murders of six relatives and her lover for insurance payouts.
She remains in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre and is also facing another case linked to an alleged plot to kill the investigating officer in her serial murder matter.
Mudau was out on bail during the trial.
Sentencing proceedings are expected to continue in the Kempton Park Regional Court.
