DA leader Mmusi Maimane says he welcomes the “new energy, ideas and vigour” that Helen Zille brings bring to the leadership collective of the party.

Maimane called on all candidates and members of the party to unite behind the new Federal Council Chairperson, saying “the election and campaigns are over, and now is the time to unite behind our common purpose.”

The DA leader was speaking following a two-day sitting of the party’s Federal Council in Johannesburg.

He said the Council had resolved to establish a Policy Review Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the party’s positions on a number of key matters, particularly on the economy and job creation.

Earlier, the DA underlined its support of its leader amid questions surrounding his future.

“Mr Maimane will lead the DA until someone decides to step up in the game and run against him at the Federal Congress. He has been supported and we still believe in him. He will lead this organisation until congress takes place in 2020,” part spokesperson Refiloe Nt’sekhe said.

Th party also resolved to convene an early congress to elect its new leaders as soon as possible.

“The DA will prepare itself for congress in 2020. One reason is that we believe that it’s important to go to congress before elections in 2021,” said Nt’sekhe.
