South Africa has been selected to host the World Economic Forum (WEF) Spring Summit in April 2027, marking the return of the gathering to the continent after seven years.

The announcement was made by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola during the South Africa Night event at the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

“South Africa will host the special WEF Spring Summit in April 2027. The summit will bring together global and African business leaders and public figures to engage on critical thematic priorities, advance public-private partnerships and accelerate Africa’s strategic developmental agenda,” said Lamola.

Lamola described the summit as a critical platform to address pressing geopolitical and socio-economic challenges facing Africa and the global economy.

Calling for national support, Lamola urged South Africans across sectors to embrace the event with the same spirit shown during the country’s G20 engagements.

“We call on all South Africans, the private sector, civil society, and all our partners, to support this meeting with the vibrancy, warmth, hospitality, and generosity that define our nation.”

The 2027 Spring Summit is expected to position South Africa as a key hub for dialogue on Africa’s role in shaping global economic and political priorities.

The announcement underscores Africa’s growing investment momentum and confident stance at the WEF.

It positions the continent as a destination for capital, partnerships, and long-term growth, Lamola indicates.

Lamola was in Switzerland alongside Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, and Patricia de Lille, Minister of Tourism.

Together, they announced the return of the World Economic Forum Africa, now titled Spring Davos, to South Africa in 2027.
