Diepsloot is back in the headlines after seven people were brutally killed on Saturday morning in what is alleged to be two separate instances of mob justice.
Five bodies were found piled up together in a field in Ext 12 after being burned with tyres and wood. While two more charred bodies were found in Ext 13.
It is alleged the victims of the mob justice were young men who were terrorising the community by committing petty crimes.
However, the police said the motive for the killings could not be confirmed at this stage.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo preliminary investigation suggests that in both incidents, the victims were assaulted and burnt by a mob.
Masondo said the police in Gauteng strongly condemn acts of vigilantism and the community taking the law into their own hands, as that constitutes a serious criminal offence.
