The Democratic Alliance (DA) has elected George Michalakis as its new Parliamentary Leader.
The DA announced the appointment on Thursday, saying Michalakis would help drive the party’s campaign for accountability and governance reform in Parliament.
“The DA has officially elected George Michalakis as our new Parliamentary Leader,” the party said.
“Ready to lead the DA in Parliament in line with our efforts to fight for accountability and drive our mission to get South Africa working for all.”

The party added that it remains committed to “fighting for what is best for all South Africans in Parliament”.
Michalakis has served as the DA’s Chief Whip in the National Assembly since July 2024 and has been a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly since June last year.
An admitted attorney of the High Court, he previously represented the Free State in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from 2014 to 2024.
Before joining Parliament, Michalakis served as a councillor in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality between 2011 and 2014.

Born in Winburg in the Free State in 1988, Michalakis studied at the University of the Free State, where he obtained an LLB degree and a BA Honours degree in French.
He currently serves on several parliamentary committees, including the Committee on the Presidency and the National Assembly Rules Committee.
