President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday handed over three new schools in KwaZulu-Natal, in partnership with the Adopt-A-School Foundation.
This forms part of part of the president’s call for collaboration between government and civil society to realise the right of children to safety and dignity in educational facilities.
The receiving schools are Enhlanhleni, Lembe and Ingweni Phaphama primary schools situated in Dannhauser, Newcastle, Utrecht and Vryheid.
Ramaphosa said: “The resources are going to be the biggest challenge because it is a response issue but we are going to speed up installation of infrastructure in our schools and correct some of the things that have not been properly done. So I’m confident that we are on the right path and we are going to do things correctly for our children because they are our biggest investment.”
A statement released by the Department of Basic Education said that, “At the three schools in question are mud structures built by communities more than 30 years ago. In some instances, they have been replaced with modern brick and mortar structures with additional design elements that allow for a positive learning environment.”
“The designs comply with current and future school requirements and complement the rural environment in which they are situated,” read the statement.
