PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma is expected to ask for postponement of his fraud and corruption trial due to COVID-19 restrictions and the recent riots in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
The former president is also expected to make a special plea to be acquitted without trial.
According to the Jacob Zuma Foundation, Zuma intends to tell the Pietermaritzburg High Court that he cannot be compelled to attend the matter virtually.
His lawyers added that he wants to testify orally as part of this plea.
The Jacob Zuma Foundation has objected to having the Advocate Billy Downer SC recusal hearing argued via virtual platforms, saying this violates the criminal procedure act (CPA) and the Constitution.
“The foundation is concerned that the directions issued by the Court in PMB to hear the matter virtually are not consistent with provisions of both the CPA and the Constitution as set out below. The matter must be heard
