THE Pharaohs were unable to clinch their eighth Cup of Nations title after falling to a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Senegalese.
Aboutrika, who is a two-time Afcon winner with Egypt, claims finishing second is not something to celebrate.
“Placing second is a failure for the Egyptian national team,” Aboutrika said, as per KingFut.
“I hope the players won’t hate me for saying this, but their media appearances made me unhappy.
“We appreciate their efforts and struggles but placing second is not a victory to be celebrated. History only remembers winners.
“Egypt have won the title seven times, we can’t celebrate second place.
“Look at Mohamed Salah, look at how sad he looks. To know victory, you have to taste defeat.
“The players should be supported. I am only saying we shouldn’t be celebrating in order for them to know the value of winning.”
