ACTIONSA Gauteng provincial chairperson John Moodey and Senate Advocate Gillian Benson have resigned as Action SA councillors in the City of Johannesburg.
The resignation will be effective on February 28.
Party chairperson Michael Beaumont explained that the resignations follow the strategic breakaway session held this past weekend, where the party agreed that the work of consolidating its structures across all 9 provinces required “all hands-on deck”.
He added that Moodey and Benson’s resignations will afford two potential candidates an opportunity to fill their spaces and gain the necessary municipal government experience.
“Therefore, John Moodey, in his capacity as ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson must focus all his efforts on supporting all our structures across Gauteng. Advocate Gillian Benson will focus on strengthening our legal,” said Beaumont.
The party said Benson will also be part of the party’s policy team working towards a proposition for the reform of the justice system ahead of 2024.
Last month ActionSA president Herman Mashaba announced that he will be stepping down from his position as a City of Johannesburg Councillor on February 28.
