GAUTENG Public Transport and Road Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo says good corporate governance is critical to the success of the Gauteng Transport Authority (TAG).
“The TAG is committed to good corporate governance and constantly strives to improve its governance framework to align it with best practice to address fundamental governance concerns. These include nurturing an ethical culture in an organisation, good performance, and effective control and legitimacy,” he said this week during the announcement of the authority’s new board.
The 13-member board is expected to play a catalytic role in addressing fragmentation in transport service delivery in the province.
Thendo Ratshitanga has been appointed board chairperson and TAG CEO Jack van der Merwe has also been appointed to the board.
Other members include Bolokang Lengane, Malebo Matolong, Fikile Mkhize, Stanley Ace Ngobeni and Vidhu Vedalankar.
Further, representing the Johannesburg metropolitan municipality is Themba Jeffrey Ngcobo, while Molatelo Rapetsoa will represent the Tshwane metropolitan municipality, Lebogang Mogakabe the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, Robbie Hendrikse the West Rand district municipality and Ntshenki Mofokeng the Sedibeng district municipality.
Aubrey Motubatse will represent the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.
The TAG is tasked with overseeing integrated planning for transport in the province and promoting the development of an integrated and accessible public transport network in the province.
“The functional transport area for Gauteng is much larger than the provincial boundaries of Gauteng. This is a unique situation and will not be duplicated in the rest of South Africa,” said Mamabolo.
