FIKILE Mbalula says one of his immediate tasks as the newly-elected ANC Secretary-General will be to ensure that both President Cyril Ramaphosa and former President Jacob Zuma start engaging on their legal spat.

Mbalula was speaking at his first press briefing as the new Secretary-General of the ANC.

“There will be a political process initiated by the party to ensure there is decorum in their dealings and engagements,” Mbalula said.

Earlier, deputy State Security Minister Zizi Kodwa said the newly elected Secretary-General will be heading to Nkandla for “tea” with Zuma soon.

Ramaphosa has given former president Zuma until 21 December 2022 to withdraw summons ordering him to appear in court.

Zuma instituted a private prosecution of Ramaphosa “for being an accessory after the fact in the crimes committed by among others Advocate [Billy] Downer namely, breaching the provisions of the NPA Act”.

Jacob Zuma’s Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi said the former president is not going to litigate through letters and media.

“President Zuma is not withdrawing the criminal case against President Ramaphosa,” Manyi said on Monday.

The case is set down for 19th January 2023.
