THE Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has appointed Tshiamo Maluleka-Disemelo as its CEO, effective February 1, for a contract period of five years.

She takes over from advocate Nkhetheleni Gidi, who held the interim CEO position over the past five months and will resume his role as executive for policy, research and analysis.

Maluleka-Disemelo has served as Icasa chief audit executive since 2020, where she collaborated with the council to develop Icasa’s strategic plan, annual and operational performance plans, policies and procedures for managing organisational risks, contributing to the effective management of the organisation.

“In addition to her other qualifications, Maluleka-Disemelo holds an MBA degree from Milpark Business School. She brings nearly two decades of governance, audit and risk management experience, as well as advanced skills in spearheading executive efforts,” says Icasa acting chairperson Dr Charley Lewis.

Both Council and management commit to supporting and working with her in fulfilling the authority’s mandate to regulate the telecommunications, postal and broadcasting sectors in the public interest, he says.

“Icasa thanks the outgoing acting CEO for providing a seamless transition, leadership and guidance over the past six months and for contributing to the authority’s success.”
