THE EFF leader Julius Malema said his party would push for a private prosecution case against the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe regarding security upgrades at three of his properties.

A testimonial at the Zondo Commission alleged that Bosasa spent about R300 000 on maintenance and security upgrades at three of Mantashe’s properties.

The State Capture also report recommended that Mantashe should be probed for corruption after he received security installations for no charge from facilities management company Bosasa.

The report said there was a reasonable prospect that further investigation will uncover a prima facie case against Mantashe in respect of the offence of corruption because he accepted or agreed to accept gratification.

“If they don’t want to charge Gwede, they must issue that non-prosecuting letter. Gwede has never denied that BOSASA installed cameras, so why is the NPA waiting. So we want Gwede prosecuted, because his arrogance is what leads to the arrogance of the ANC,” said Malema, adding that the party has also instructed its lawyers to privately prosecute Mantashe.

“There is no way with so much overwhelming evidence against Gwede, that he is not charged. The evidence is not even disappearing.”

Malema was addressing the media following the EFF’s Plenary meeting in Johannesburg.

Mantashe has in the past few months threatened to challenge the findings of the Zondo Commission report in court.
